Chapter Summary 16: Narrative Continued by the Doctor: How the Ship was Abandoned

In this chapter, the good hands find and stock the stockade.

At the same time as Jim left the ship, the doctor, the captain, and the squire were talking about how they were helpless to start with and that now Jim had run away. They then decided to go ashore to learn more information. They quickly found a stockade that had a spring and defensive formations. The doctor rather liked the springs because they had no water. As they looked around, they heard a deathly scream. They wasted no time getting back to the ship. When they got there, the doctor told his plan to the captain and worked out how to do the plan. They then set the plan into motion and told the 6 men on deck that if they tried to make a signal then they would be shot. They then loaded up a boat with as many supplies as they could take and headed for the island. They then dropped the supplies off at the stockade and left someone to guard them. They went back to the ship and reloaded the boat. They then recruited one more man and quickly sailed away.
