In this chapter, the marauders trash the inn and the blind man dies.
Right after they reached the bridge in chapter 4, seven marauders, including the blind man, break down the door to the inn. They find out the captain is dead and that the chest has been looted. Then the blind man gets so mad that he says, "I wished I had put his eyes out," referring to Jim. The marauders then spread out and search for Jim and his mom. The marauders then start to quarrel amongst themselves and then horses come. Then all of the marauders, except the blind man run away. As the blind man tries to get away he is run over by horses and killed. Then both Jim, his mom and the rider go back to the Admiral Benbow Inn only to find it trashed. The rider then asks what the marauders were looking for and Jim tells him that they were probably looking for the oilskin packet he has. He then asks to go to Dr. Livesey to show him the packet.
