In this chapter, Jim and his flee for their lives.
Following the sudden death of both the captain and Jim's father in chapter 3, Jim told his mother everything he knew. Then Jim and his mom go to the hamlet and try to get the people there to help Jim and his mom get their money back that the captain owed them. They did not get anyone to go with them, but they gave Jim and his mom a loaded pistol and promised to have horses ready. After that they loot the captain's body taking a key, what the captain owed them and an oilskin packet. Then they both ran off into the night fearing for their lives.
