Chapter Summary 8: At the Sign of the Spy-glass

In this chapter, Jim meets with Long John Silver and Jim sees the Black Dog.

Long John Silver requests to see Jim at the Spy Glass Inn. When Jim arrives, his fears are put to rest that this could be the one-legged man that the captain was talking about because Long John Silver is nice and kind to him. Then in the middle of their conversation a man jumps up and runs out of the inn.  Jim recognizes him as “Black Dog.” Then Jim and some others chase after him. However, “Black Dog” manages to escape again and Jim's suspicions are aroused again that Silver could be the one-legged man that the captain was talking about. But then Long John Silver tells a joke and both of them laugh until it's time to go to the ship. When they meet up with the squire and Dr. Livesey, Long John Silver tells the story from beginning to end and they go to see the ship.
